Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in a Road House sequel announced by Amazon MGM Studios on Tuesday.

During the studio’s inaugural upfronts presentation, the sequel plans were unveiled following the first film earning nearly 80 million worldwide viewers after debuting March 21 on Prime Video. Gyllenhaal will reprise his role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton.

“I am so ready, like I love this character, I love this world, I love the thing that we’ve created, and I can’t wait to bring more,” the Gyllenhaal told the upfonts presentation. Other plot details for the Road House sequel are being kept under wraps.

Amazon said the remake of the 1989 action classic, which starred Patrick Swayze, was its biggest global movie launch ever. And for the first time for a feature film, Amazon reported 50 million viewers had watched the film in its opening two weekends.

Jake will appear at ACE Superhero Comic Con in San Antonio, TX next month. He will appear for two days only – June 21 and June 22 – at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Halls. The convention, which runs from June 20-23, will host photo and autograph opportunities, panel discussions, cosplay competitions, and more.

‘Saturday Night Live’ has set Maya Rudolph to host its May 11th episode alongside Vampire Weekend as musical guest, while the May 18th episode will by headlined by Jake Gyllenhaal with performances from Sabrina Carpenter.

Gyllenhaal will host the “SNL” Season 49 finale as a third-time host, having previously led episodes in 2007 with the Shins as musical guest and in 2022 opposite Camila Cabello. The actor recently starred in Amazon Prime Video’s remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze film “Road House” and will next be seen in Apple TV+’s “Presumed Innocent,” which he also executive produces.

Carpenter will be making her “SNL” debut. She recently released the single “Espresso,” her first to hit the Billboard Top 10.
